A Journey to Freedom: A diary by Mary Jonas

Sept. 3, 1620
Today is the first  day of our journey to  the New World. Jonathan has set off days before us. It is only us now, little Timmy, Horace and I. My dear friend Carry is coming to the New World with her three sons, Jim, Gareth, and Colby. We, along with other women and children, were  waiting to board the ship. Sailors are running to and fro, everyone is in a rush. They do not know what calamities await us, and we all must be prepared for anything. "Mother," says little Timmy, only four years of age. " When will we get on the boat? I am tired,"
"I am sorry, dear, we must wait only but a little longer," I say to him. Horace, who is eight years, points at the sails.
" We should be off soon, now! Look how the sails are unfurling, Timmy!" Timmy looks in awe as the " big waving sheets", as he calls them, rolled out slowly. Before we knew it, we were on board, below the deck, and putting our small bags of clothing and private items on the shelves on the wall. The sleeping quarters were very tight, and the boys shared a bed. Cramped as we were, we managed to make do. Dozens of people were in our cabin, blankets spread on the ground as make-shift beds. I looked around and decided that if we were going to be living here for several weeks, we had better get comfortable. I am writing these events as the boat rocks back and again, dim candles glowing, and sleeping persons.
Sept. 4, 1620
The waves are tossing up against the sides of the ship. We are all feeling weak. The small meal we were given was hardly enough to fill us up. Timmy complains of being tired now and again. I tell him to go to bed, but he refused to leave my side. I finally convinced him to go, and concerned that he might be ill, I go to Carry for advice.
" When my boys have been ill, they are tired and hot. They toss and turn, and fall asleep. I soothe their head with a damp rag, and keep them cool. Keep them out of the sun, and in the cabin," Carry suggested. I took her advice, and put Horace to work on finding a rag, while I looked for water. After a long search, I found a basin of cool water next to the wash rag for hands. Soon, Horace was back with a clean rag. Timmy lay in his bed, his forehead very hot. What luck, when we finally set off, we have barely started, and many people are not used to the rocking of the boat.
" Poor Timmy, he is sick so early in the journey," said Horace. Carry helped me with Timmy, while Horace and Carry's boys played with some little friends of theirs that they made. Later in the morning, the Captain called us all above deck. Every one who had boarded was up there, making it very difficult to move around. "All boys, please step forward," he said, in his booming voice. "You will climb the ropes from this day forth. You will look out for other ships, and storms, way up there!" Capt. barked, as if the children were still infants. Horace and the others cheered, and set off with the sailors, who would show them how to climb. I do not like the idea of my children climbing the high ropes, that are used to turn the sails. Timmy would have loved to climb them, but I insisted he stay in bed. Thank goodness for that! I wish Jonathan was here to help me. I miss him dearly.

Married

Music sounded over the microphone.  The sermon began.  Mack swallowed hard.
"Mack, do you promise to love your wife?"
"I do."
"Rachel, do you promise to love Mack?"
"I do."
The sermon was over.  Mack kissed Rachel.
Love began!
Pregnant!
Rachel was pregnant.  When the baby was born, they named her Emily.  So, blessed be the name of the Lord!

The End

The White House!

On the train to the White House, Jake took out a drawing pad.  He started sketching a picture.
At the White House, he got a medal for the greatest art in the country!  Proud as ever, Jake beamed with pleasure.

Parents, test your kids...
1.  Fill a cup with water.
2.  Pour out a little each second.
3.  Ask your kids if they can stay even with obeying you.

Artist on the Way!

"Jake!" called his mother.
"Yes?"
"Please set the table!"
"Okay!"
Jake set down his pencil and pad.  He ran down the stairs, took the forks and spoons and set them neatly on the table.  He took the table cloth and spread it on the table.  Jake sat nicely at the table, waiting for the others.  After the prayer, Jake saw that he should set the milk on the table.  He got up quietly and put on the milks.
Suddenly the phone rang.  "Brrrrrring!"
"May I get it, Father?" Jake asked.
"Yes."
"Is this Jacob Moseart?" asked the President.  Jake nearly fainted.
"Y..y..yes, sir."
"You have won the grand prize for art.  Come to the White House on fifth."  Thud!
Father immediately stood.
"Jake?"
No answer.
"Jake?"
No answer, again.
"Jake!"
The house shook.
Father ran into the room.  He shook Jake.
"Yes, Father?" Jake woke from the faintness.
"Why did you faint?" His father asked.
"The President asked me to go the White House on the fifth."
"Oh, wow!"

Parents ask kids
1.  Are you honest and obedient like Jake?
2.  Are you an artist?
3.  Do you obey your parents?

The Circus

"Save her!  Save her!" People shouted at the clown.
They were at the circus watching firemen clowns get tangled in their own hoses.  Everybody laughed.  Emma bought cotton candy for everybody.  Jake helped her organize the children.
"Jake Moseart!"
The Judge called for the grand prize or art.
"Go Jake!" D.D. shouted.

The circus went on for days.  The children got spoiled off popcorn and candy.  Poor Emma.  She had bought them daily tickets.  She gave them the money to ride on rides.  She helped them win prizes.  She bought Lucy a diary.  She gave Shang new American foods each day.
Finally, the circus left.  Emma brought them home.

Parents ask kids
1.  Would your parent let you have cotton candy each day?
2.  Can you ride rides?
3.  Do you like circuses?

Babysitting Days

"Emma, can you babysit my youngsters on Thursday at four?" Mrs. Raven asked.
"Um...I'll ask Mother."  Emma covered the phone with her hand.  "Hey Mother, can I babysit for Mrs. Raven on Thursday?"
"Well, Father and I have a date on Thursday, so you'll have to have them come here." Mother answered.
"Okay.  Yes, Mrs. Raven, but bring them here, okay?"
"Okay."
Emma hung up.  Maybe I can have Lucy babysit those brats, she thought.
That night, Emma wrote a small poem.
Babysit
Babysit
Can't someone babysit me?
Emma Moseart
Emma thought she could never get away from babysitting.

Parents Ask Kids
1.  Have you ever babysitted before?
2.  How old are you?
3.  Do you have a phone?

Bad School Times

At lunch, on January 3rd, things didn't go so well for Lucy.  First, it was being tricked in her lunch.  Jacob likely put ketchup on her pizza instead of sauce.  Kaylee H. made fun of Lucy's hair style.  (It was a fat bun.)  Amber and Riley Booket yanked out one of her loose teeth and laughed because she still had her baby teeth in.  Lucy burst into tears.  Brad Cop and Kelly Morgan (her best friends) tried to comfort her.  The next day, it snowed!  Nobody had seen Lucy's knocked out tooth so she thought, the snow is hard enough, so I can make a mold of my tooth, put snow in it and stick it in my mouth!  So Lucy too some modeling clay, wrapped it around her tooth, pulled the tooth out of the clay, filled the clay tooth with snow and stuck it in her mouth!  "Lucy!" her mother called.  "wft goft'in fun dowf theft?" (She was saying, "What's going on down there?")  Lucy asked. "What did you say?", her mother asked.  Lucy took out the tooth.  " I said, 'What's going on down there?"  "Oh!"

At school, Lucy did not talk to anyone.  You can guess why!

Parents ask your kids:
1.  When did you lose your first tooth?
2.  Have you had a bad day at school before?
3.  Why didn't Lucy talk?

Answer: 'Cause of her fake tooth

A New Friend

Lucilla (Lucy) Moseart got read quickly for the first day of school.
"Lucy! Can you pour my cereal?"
"Lucilla, D.D.'s hungry!"
Her adopted sister Shang yelled. (She's from China.) Lucy rushed down the stairs. In the van, Lucy drove fasst! The first day at college seemed scary. Parents, were you afraid on your first day of college? Well, Lucy was. Lucy ran to the office to pick up her schedule.
Suddenly, Kelly Morgan ran up.
"Hi. What's your name?"
"Um...Lucilla or Lucy. That's what everyone calls me."
"Mine's Kelly."
They compared schedules.
"I think we have gym together!" Kelly squealed.
"I have voice from eleven to twelve." Lucilla said.

Parents Ask Kids...
1. What grade are you in?
2. Do you like gym class?
3. Were you nervous on your first day of school?

A New Life

Eventually, D.D. found out that the boy's name was Evan Cooper. Evan was a Christian that lived in a well stabled house. His family was very wealthy.
"Hi...um..." Evan walked up to D.D.
"Daniel Douglas Moseart."
"Oh, thanks." Evan replied. "Douglas Daniel..."
"Call me D.D." D.D. said.
"Thanks, again."
They walked up to Evan's house and sat on the porch. Evan stood. "Here, I'll show you around"
D.D. smiled. "Okay!"
Evan showed him to D.D.'s porch. "First, here's your house. Here's the stable. There's the barn. Here are the horses. This one is Copper. She's going to foal pretty soon. Here's Bella. We call her that because she sounds like one when she calls to her mates. Here's Champion. This baby's been racing since she was a filly."
He showed D.D. to the tack room. (Tack is stuff you put on a horse like a saddle or bridle.)
"Neigh!" Evan gasped. "Mom! Run to the stable! Copper's foaling!"
"What's foaling mean?" D.D. asked.
"It's when a horse gives birth." Evan answered.
Suddenly, D.D.'s mom yelled, "D.D., it's time to go to Ms. Bradley's Home for Girls!"
In the car, Lucy told D.D. that they were getting a new sister.
"How old?" D.D. asked.
"About eight." Mack replied.
When they got there, D.D. was allowed to choose which girl he wanted. He chose a girl named Shang. He knew he would love her.

Parents Ask Kids
1. Are you ever going to adopt anyone?
2. Who's your best friend?
3. Do you live on a farm?

The Move

Douglas, Jackie's brother sighed. They were in the car, driving to their new farm in Kannas, MO. It took three days to get there from Texas. Douglas Daniel Mousart (DD) looked back. He missed Aunt Laurn and Uncle Jackson already! He missed their cousins, Annie, Moses, Cooper, Kate and baby Kanga. Baby Kanga always laughed her googly laugh at his silly faces. Annie and Moses, both nine like Jackie, liked to climb trees with him. Cooper and Kate were twelve like his sister, Emma. He was always thinking how there seemed to be twins in his family. He had five siblings. (You say it sib-a-lings.)

His big brother Mack, his big sister Lucilla or Lucy, as everyone called her. His big sister Emma and twelve year old Jackie. He was eight. Finally, they drove up at Country Stables, the farm they were staying at. A boy waved. That instant, DD knew he had a friend. Douglas Daniel Mousart loved it!

Parents ask kids:
1) Do you think DD was afraid to move?
2) Do you think DD is a nice kid?
3) Do you have five or four siblings?

Do Not Lie!

Jackie sighed, relieved. "Mom, I don't want to face Ms. Anne again!"
Mom answered, "Live with it, Sweet Heart."
"Fine."
Eventually, Jackie got sick, and had to stay home. The next day, Jackie went back. Ms. Anne said, "Jackie, I heard you had a fever, yesterday."
"I actually had pneumonia." (Jackie actually just had a cold.)
Ms. Anne frowned. "I don't see how you recovered that quickly."
Jackie shrugged her shoulders. At lunch, Jackie thought, I'm sick of telling lies. I wish I didn't have that habit. Oh well.
And eventually, Jackie lied again. (No one is perfect.)

Parents ask kids...
1) Do you think your mom would let you stay home?
2) Do you wish you didn't lie?

Rabbit Act

"Make sure to put your costumes in your cubbie" Ms. Anne said. A chorus of "yes" answered her. Jackie thought, I I take my costume home, Mom can see my rabbit costume! Jackie walked to her cubbie and put the rabbit costume in to her bookbag.

"Look, Mom!" Jackie hopped over to mom on a pogo stick. "Mom. I'm a rabbit!" Jackie had put her rabbit costume on. Mom clapped. The next day Jackie hurriedly, accidentily left her costume on her bed. When she got to school, she started to unpack. Jackie looked all over her book bag for her costume. When Ms. Anne asked if everybody had their costumes, Jackie lied and said, "Yup."

"O.K., class let's go out to the stage, and do our thing. Jackie swallowed hard. "Here's your costume!" Jackie looked up to see Mom holding her costume. "Jackie, you lied to me." Ms. Anne said, disappointment in her voice. "Sorry." They walked out on to stage. Jackie played her part perfectly.

Parents, ask your kids theese questions.
1) If you were Jackie, would you lie also?
2) Would you have brought the costume home?
3) Do you know one commandment that goes with this book?
Answer: (Do not lie.)

Creature Planet

Have you heard of Creature Planet? It is a place where Snicks and Doe-Does,Aliens and Pine-Walkers live.Kiching(their king)Callboe made rules that every creature was allowed on Creature Planet. A specific creature had a place in royalty.Flimdo as King's servant,Snickey as King's guard, Alisone as small door-opener,and last but not least,Piney as King's musician. They all worked hard for the king. There was one thing that entered Creature Planet that was not a creature. It was not agua. (Spanish for water) It was a creature-wide enemy...named SPOONCK!!!! Can you guess what Spoonck was? Well if you can't guess what Spoonck was, he is a spoon. A super powerful spoon!

He thought that only HE ruled all of the planets! A few days later, an ARMY of spoons came! Next bananas! Caterpillars, small dinosaurs, even! Spoonck started taking over Creature Planet, turning it in to a disaster! Kiching Callboe was furious. Spoonck tore down hotels, restaurants, buildings and Kiching Callboe's Castle! Kiching Callboe wouldn't give up. He fought day and night. Finally, Kiching Callboe gathered a group of Do-Do's to fight Spoonck's army. Days, years, months passed. Kiching Callboe's army started giving up. "No! Don't give up! I wish you a Merry Christmas! Wait a sec, how did that come up?" Kiching Callboe said, twictching with laughter.

Spoonck didn't laugh, he attacked more! Suddenly, a butterfly wrote a message in the sky...SPOONCK STINKS!

Spoonck popped out wings and destroyed the writing. Kiching Callboe and his army told Spoonck how mean he was. Spoonck just destroyed more buildings and hotels. The teapot buildings suddenly filled with snow! Because...Kiching Callboe had a snow-globe, broke it and it snowed! Spoonck got smaller and smaller and smaller. He shrank! Spoonck melted because if his metal got wet, he would shrink. "Hurrah!" every creature rejoiced. Creature Planet was back!

The Magic Vase

''Oh,brother,'' Olivirina(Olivia)Vanordia(Vanie)sighed. ''Why don't people call me by my real name, Olivia?'' ''Olivirina, Olivirina,'' Mrs.Vanie called.''Joey, Matthew, April, Cyril, Katherine,(Katie)come here.'' But Olivia didn't come! ''Ollie,(her mother had never called her that before.)come here! Sorry Alison that I didn't call you, but come here!'' Thirty-five year old Joe,eight year old Matthew and seven year old Cyril smiled. They knew that when the girls
came,... BANG! CRASH! BANG! would happen. Why? Because Joe(their mother called him Joey)had put sleeping powder in their food, not just any powder,MAGIC sleeping powder.

Anything the girls touched would explode! Alison touched a vase. POOF! It was gone.'' 'Livia! Your vase disappeared!'' '' I know!'' Olivia gasped. April and Katie wandered to the table, sleepy eyed.''Kay,April, wake up.Sleepy heads they are.'' Alison whispered to Olivia. Later that day at school, a boy named Richard Combrit said ''Care to play golf, later? You,Kuskey,C.Vanie and me?'' ''Sure. Ricky,I have a magic vase in my house.'' Olivia whispered. (they were only allowed to call people by their last name at that school) ''Really? No, your kidding.'' Ricky laughed.

"No,seriously!" Olivia said, surprised that her friend laughed at her. After school, Karen Kuskey,Cyril, her,and Ricky golfed.then they went to Karen's house. Olivia took the vase out of her backpack and told the others about the vase. (Matthew got jealous and had to come also.) "Oh,Olivirna!" her friends and Cyril gasped as Matthew took the vase and broke it. "Olivirina," he called. Olivia couldn't stand it any longer.

"Do NOT call me Olivirina. My real name is Olivia!" Matthew surprised of his calm (usually, anyway.)sister's outburst. "Sissy,(Olivia was twenty-seven.)your real name is..." "Be quiet! Olivia snapped. It was to late. Mrs.Vanie had heard. "Uh-oh." Olivia gasped, when she saw her mother stalking towards her. On her face was written "Very Angry" and she was " Very Angry." "Olivirina Katherine Vanordia, where may I ask..." "No!" was the sharp reply. "Off to bed this instant!" Mrs. Vanie hissed. "Doe,a deer,a female deer. Ray,a drop of golden sun. Mi, a name, I call myself ...''Olivia rushed downstairs to find out who was singing. The vase was singing! Christian songs, mostly. From then on that family was a christian one.(because of the vase.)

THE END!

The Best Gift

''I can't wait till Christmas!'' Jimmy Carson said." Its only two more days away!" Jimmy, Timothy," ( Timmy) Jonathan, Andrea, and Joey had been waiting for Sunday for, well, I do not know how long. The outside of the Carson's house was covered i n tinsel and holly, decorations and lights'.' 'Santa Clause will not come down chimney if we are not good.'' said eight year old Timmy. Chad Carson wondered if children knew the true meaning of Christmas.''Children, come here. Do you know the true meaning of Christmas?''Yeah, it's Santa Clause's shouted Jimmy.'' No, guess again. 'Reindeer? Elves? The sleigh?'' ''No, no, no.'' Chad said.'' I wil tell you all. Once an angel named Gabriel appeared to a virgin, Mary.'' ''What is a virgin?'' asked Andrea." A virgin is a person who is not married.'' answered Chad. ''Oh.'' ''Mary was frightened. She wanted the angel to prove that she would have a son named Jesus. Gabriel proved it by saying that her relative,Elizabeth, was going to have a son at her old age .Then Mary believed the angel. Joseph was engaged to Mary. He found out and decided to divorce her quietly. But an angel said to him in dream not to. Chad continued the story until it was done. From then on the children believed in GOD, not Santa Clause.
